The 2017 Belmont Stakes was the 149th running of the Belmont Stakes and the 106th time the event took place at Belmont Park.The 1 1 ⁄ 2-mile (2,400 m) race, known as the 'test of the champion', is the final jewel in Thoroughbred horse racing's American Triple Crown series. The race was on June 10, 2017, and was broadcast by NBC starting at 5 PM EDT. A slimmer field of 10 horses takes aim at the 2017 Preakness, the middle jewel of horse racing’s Triple Crown, highlighted by 2017 Derby winner Always Dreaming, an early 4-to-5 favorite.

Swiss Skydiver gave fans A Jewel To Remember at Preakness 145 when she outpaced the favorite, Authentic, in a photo finish to be only the sixth filly in Preakness history to capture the Woodlawn Vase, and first filly since 2009. Jockey Robby Albarado, trainer Ken McPeek, and owner Peter Callahan made history in the first Preakness Stakes race.

The outcome of the 2017 Preakness wasn’t quite as surprising as the 2017 Kentucky Derby, but there was an upset nonetheless. Just as Classic Empire looked to have the second leg of the Triple Crown sown up, Cloud Computing — a horse that didn’t race earlier this month — stormed from behind to win the race at the last moment.

That late surge helped boat the odds of the race’s Superfecta outcome, a bet that requires bettors to correctly pick the first, second, third and fourth placed finishers, in order. At the Kentucky Derby, a $1 bet netted over $75,000; the Preakness Superfecta wasn’t quite that much, but it still would’ve turned $1 into more than $8,000.
